AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
Intro
This was a school project that’s emphasis was on collaboration and concept. I partnered with another student and we brainstormed to come up with a topic that was both relevant and in need of awareness. Our topic was the opioid epidemic. Our goal was to encourage those suffering to seek help and to inform others to eliminate shame and misconceptions.
Execution
Our selection of color, type, and hand drawn characters were carefully chosen. We developed our characters and I executed the illustrations. We wanted a sketchy rough feel that contrasted against our more delicate type and colors. The characters are pill people and represent victims as people see them and not as individuals. However, the further understanding you have of the epidemic, it’s apparent that anyone is susceptible to addiction given certain circumstances. Our challenge was to bring light, and approachability to a taboo topic. We often correlate shame with drug use and drug discussion and our aim was to avoid that. We instead approached it with empathy and information. We used graphs and data to outline painful statistics and give a big picture look at the epidemic.
Deliverables
Our 30 day recovery care cards are intended to provide hope and positivity during the recovery stage. The cards contain detailed descriptions of what the person may be feeling on that specific day, information was provided by data. Alongside the information on the card are words of encouragement. The pamphlets are intended for distribution at hospitals and rehab facilitations.
