My kitchen renovation was my most anticipated home renovation project. This took a lot of in-depth research and planning. I studied many books and took workshops from praised interior decorator Maria Killam. Intensely I studied color theory and undertones. I learned a lot about the complexity and relativity of the color white. I knew what I wanted my kitchen to look like but to execute it on a modest budget was quite a challenge. My overall goal was to create a functional, simplistic yet timeless kitchen that would withstand trends and give us many years to enjoy.

Before... My home was built in 1980. Over time and I'm sure many happy memories being made along the way, it was worn and time for a refresh. We blocked off a window which slightly changed the layout. We tore it down to the studs and started fresh. My husband did most of the work himself which was timely but I'm incredibly grateful for.

A year later and our kitchen is still not completely done. We still have finishing touches to add, such as all the cabinet and floor & window trim. I still need window treatments and a lot of decorating to do. But in the mean time I wanted to post my process and progress.

A glimpse of my kitchen at Christmas time! I adore the holidays with Christmas being my favorite. I kept it simple with greenery and layered touches of traditional red plaid.

Glimpses of holiday decorating over the years.

One of our first projects was our daughter's bathroom. We learned a lot doing this project and it prevented us from making some mistakes twice during other renovations. Overall I'm happy with how this turned out and love how the simplicity of the design allows us to switch up the decor as we'd like.
